An alleged Staten Island mob capo is asking for a hearing after being charged in a gambling case tied to NBA notables. Joseph Lanni, 55, pleaded not guilty last year to running unlicensed poker games in Manhattan. Lanni also faces an open 2023 Brooklyn federal case involving a takeover attempt in carting and demolition industries. Court records also describe threats, an assault investigation in Toms River, and phone calls made to a restaurant about 39 times. Prosecutors say the games involved sports celebrities and unsuspecting players, with more than 30 defendants charged across 11 states. The indictment named Chauncey Billups, Terry Rozier, and Damon Jones among the NBA figures involved.
