FAR ROCKAWAY, Queens (PIX11) — The charges are pending after a man suspected of killing his mother and sister before police shot him during a confrontation in front of a Queens home on Saturday, sources said Monday.
Kegan Thomas, 33, is accused of shooting his 28-year-old sister, Selena Ponce, in the shoulder and his mother, 58-year-old Clemer Ponce, in the chest inside the home on Ocean Crest Boulevard in Far Rockaway just before noon, police and sources said.
A woman told police she heard gunshots inside her home and that her husband, who has a history of mental illness, was armed, officials said.
Authorities said the man was allegedly saying, “Kill them, kill them,” during the 911 call.
Officers met the woman outside, and she told them she heard gunshots and found a body in a room. She then fled the home and told first responders her husband had a shotgun.
Patrol officers called for backup and attempted to speak to Thomas, who was still inside the house.
A large fiery explosion then occurred as they attempted to enter the home. Thomas came out wearing a bulletproof vest and holding a shotgun loaded with ammunition, authorities said.
Thomas was told multiple times to drop his shotgun, and when he didn’t, officers shot him, police said. He was taken to a local hospital, where he remains in stable condition.
The suspect’s mother and sister were found in the home and were pronounced dead, according to the NYPD.
The charges against Thomas are still pending on Monday, police said.
