DM & Co Productions will host industry presentations of a new Mae West-focused musical titled Come Up and See Me Sometime: Return of the Notorious M.A.E. July 30-31 at Sunlight Studios. The project, conceived by Don Mongitore, features a book by Mongitore and Kevin Smith Kirkwood, with Kirkwood directing the upcoming performances.
The project uses three actors to play the iconic performer at three eras of her life and career, tracking West on her journey from vaudeville to becoming a playwright, Hollywood superstar, and landmark cultural icon. Mongitore and Kirkwood’s book is set to a soundtrack of songs made famous by West, alongside original material by Kirkwood and music supervisor-arranger Drew Wutke.
The upcoming presentations will feature Natalie Joy Johnson (Lempicka), Carla R. Stewart (Tina: The Tina Turner Musical) and Petralina Rae (Women on Fire) as West. The cast will also include Eric Chambliss, Michael Di Liberto, Kerry Flanagan, Gillian Han, Kira Sarai Helper, Mariah Lyttle, Sean Michael McGee, Sean Steele, and Melvin Tunstall. Casting is by Darienne Orlansky.
The project’s creative team includes choreographer Julie O’Connell, dramaturg Zoë Elizabeth Lillis, production stage manager Celina Revollar, and general manager Evan Bernardin Productions. The upcoming presentations will feature stage directions read by Yves Allen with Shawn Dustin on drums.
