Henrietta, N.Y. — A push is underway to halt the expansion of controversial data centers in New York, as state leaders move to tighten oversight of large-scale facilities.
Gov. Kathy Hochul was in town Wednesday meeting with county and town leaders to highlight New York’s one-year moratorium on new hyperscale data facilities.

Hochul said the moratorium is intended to build a leading framework to protect people, the environment and the energy grid.
The governor is also pursuing legislation to roll back sales tax exemptions for data centers.
