NEW YORK (PIX11) — Over 50 downstate beaches are either closed entirely or highly recommend you not swim in their waters ahead of warmer days in New York.

Dozens of Nassau and Suffolk County beaches were under a bathing advisory due to heightened bacteria levels in the water stemming from heavy overnight rainfall in the area.

NY beaches closed

Two beaches in Nassau and one in Westchester were closed entirely due to the water quality.
