A second teenager has been arrested in connection to the fatal July 5 shooting of a 16-year-old at Hartkopf Park, according to the Brooklyn Park Police Department.
On July 29, the United States Marshals Service located and apprehended a 17-year-old male suspect in Peoria, Illinois. The arrest is the result of an investigation by Brooklyn Park Police detectives, which led a Hennepin County judge to issue a warrant for a second suspect in the case.
The first suspect, also a 17-year-old male, was booked July 8 at the Hennepin County Juvenile Detention Center on probable cause second-degree murder. Police reportedly recovered the weapon used in the shooting.
Police responded to the reported shooting at Hartkopf Park, located at 7300 Florida Ave. N. in Brooklyn Park, at approximately 10:45 p.m. Upon arrival, officers found a 16-year-old male with a gunshot wound to the head.
In a statement, the police department said officers provided lifesaving aid but the victim ultimately succumbed to his injuries. The victim was later identified as Immanuel Kowo.
