PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. (WCAX) – Nearly 13% of people in New York’s North Country are food insecure, according to a new “State of Hunger Report” from Feeding America.
The report examined six counties in the North Country and found that about one in six children and one in eight adults are food insecure.
“I think there are counties in the North Country, like Franklin County, Clinton County, that are some of the highest in the state,” said Tom Nardacci, CEO of the Regional Food Bank.
The Regional Food Bank met with partnering organizations Thursday to discuss ways to deliver more food to families in need.
“I think they’re great because there are ideas that are happening in other regions that we may have not known about otherwise until coming to an event like this. So, I think having these open conversations are beneficial. Someone might be doing something different or better and this is the opportunity to learn about that,” said Nicole Laurin, CEO of JCEO.
