ODESSA, Texas (KOSA) – Hundreds of Medical Center Hospital employees received a sweet surprise on Thursday during the celebration of Miracle Treat Day, a long-standing partnership between Dairy Queen and Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals.
The annual event raises critical funds for pediatric care at Medical Center Health System, which stands as the only Children’s Miracle Network hospital in the Permian Basin. For every Dairy Queen Blizzard purchased on Miracle Treat Day, one dollar goes directly to the hospital to support pediatric and NICU units.
“We brought 750 Blizzards for all staff,” said Trevor Tankersley, Director of Public Relations for Medical Center Health. “They love free ice cream, and it makes everyone happy. That money stays directly here locally to fund new equipment, research, and training for our pediatric and NICU staff.”
Those specialized units and state-of-the-art machinery have a life-saving impact on local families, including four-year-old Sadie Coronado. Born at just 23 weeks and five days, Sadie weighed only one pound and four ounces. She spent 126 days fighting for her life in the hospital.
“All of the equipment they raise funds for is helpful for kids like her,” said Yesenia Coronado, Sadie’s mother. “Without that equipment, she wouldn’t have survived. She truly is a miracle.”
Today, Sadie is celebrated as a Children’s Miracle Network Champion. She continues to thrive and do what she loves most—spending time with her baby brother and playing with Play-Doh.
“I’m a champion!” Sadie said.
All Dairy Queen locations in Midland and Odessa are participating in Miracle Treat Day. Local residents are encouraged to stop by, enjoy a Blizzard, and support life-saving care for children in the Permian Basin.
