STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — A 36-year-old woman from Portland, Oregon, was arrested Friday in connection with the abduction of a 10-year-old girl from a West Brighton residence, according to the New York Police Department.
Claudia Ramirez of the 2900 block of SE Hawthorne Boulevard in Portland, was arrested at 4:10 p.m. Friday in the vicinity of the North Shore’s 120th Precinct. She faces six charges, including kidnapping, endangering the welfare of a child, failure to exercise control of a minor, unlawful imprisonment, custodial interference and enticement of an individual less than 16 by a relative, said NYPD.
The incident began at approximately 6:42 p.m. Thursday when police responded to a 911 call of a possible child abduction from a residence near Clove Road and Forest Avenue.
A 34-year-old woman told officers that Ramirez took her 10-year-old daughter from the home without permission, according to police.
According to the NYPD, the child was last seen wearing a black sweatshirt, black shorts, a red bandana around her neck and face, a white leopard print hat and black Ugg boots. She was carrying a blue and purple multicolored backpack with the word “Justice” written on it.
Ramirez was described wearing beige pants and a black hooded sweatshirt, police said. She was carrying two black backpacks and a pair of crutches, according to the NYPD.
The NYPD released a surveillance photo of a woman sought for questioning in connection with the incident.
Police confirmed that the missing child had been located Friday afternoon.
