JERUSALEM (VINnews) — Israeli President Isaac Herzog said New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani is contributing to hostility toward Jewish residents through his public rhetoric, arguing that such language can have real-world consequences.

Speaking in an interview with Fox News, Herzog said Mamdani has failed to recognize Israel’s legitimacy as the national homeland of the Jewish people and warned that public officials should consider how their words affect public safety.
Herzog said inflammatory rhetoric can fuel antisemitism and place members of New York City’s Jewish community at greater risk. He expressed confidence that the city would remain resilient while voicing hope that lasting harm could be avoided.
Mamdani has previously denied allegations that he is antisemitic, saying he opposes antisemitism and other forms of hatred while maintaining his criticism of Israeli government policies.
During the interview, Herzog also praised President Donald Trump’s relationship with Israel, describing the alliance between the United States and Israel as enduring despite occasional policy disagreements.
Herzog further criticized former International Criminal Court prosecutor Karim Khan, arguing that the court’s case against Israeli officials lacks merit and should be withdrawn.
