Amid a summer with a fair share of very hot days which have pushed the state’s power grid to produce near-record high levels of energy, private utility companies are pushing to change state law to allow those companies to get back into owning large-scale power generation operations.
Nearly 30 years ago, then-Gov. George Pataki, a Republican, signed legislation that forced these companies to sell their power plants to help bolster competition.
