Spectrum News 1 got a glimpse into the new Guilderland Costco Wholesale store before it opens at 8 a.m. Thursday.
The Costco is located next to Crossgates Mall on Western Avenue.
According to the company, 14,000 people have already signed up for memberships. It says that is a record for the Northeast. The company expects 20,000 people to sign up by the end of the week.
“We’re going to be giving out donations to the food bank, any goods we have,” General Manager Tony Dotson said. We’re going to average about 3,000 pounds a month, which is exciting because we’ve experienced there is a need in the Capital Region. And that’s something we feel we can give back to the community and be a big part of.”
The project faced years of debate but got final approval from a state Appellate Court judge who ruled the city planning board took proper dilligence with regards to any possible environmental affects.
The company recently announced there will also be a new Costco in West Seneca.
