STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — A woman is facing charges after she was allegedly arrested in possession of a firearm early Wednesday morning.
According to a spokesperson with the NYPD, officers from the Neighborhood Safety Team responded to a ShotSpotter activation within Silver Lake Park just after 12:30 a.m.
Upon arrival, officers allegedly encountered Lanicke Stanley, 29, who fled from the police into a wooded area, the spokesperson said.
In pursuit, officers jumped a guard rail and followed Stanley into the woods, where they took her into custody, added the spokesperson.
At the scene, in the vicinity of Forest Avenue and Victory Boulevard, Stanley, a resident of the 300 block of Broadway in West Brighton, was found to be in possession of a black plastic bag containing a 9mm Taurus G3C semi-automatic pistol and one magazine with the capacity to accept more than ten rounds of ammunition, as alleged in court documents.
As indicated in court records, the bag was recovered by an officer who observed Stanley allegedly throw it.
Officers also found one 9mm shell casing at the scene, as alleged by authorities.
No injuries were reported as a result of the alleged shot fired.
When officers attempted to arrest her, Stanley allegedly resisted by flailing her arms and evading handcuffs.
Court documents show that according to one officer, Stanley said in sum and substance, including but not limited to “alright alright, you got it, I didn’t have a chance to throw it.”
Stanley faces charges of criminal possession of a weapon, criminal possession of a firearm and resisting arrest.
Her attorney declined an opportunity to comment.
