The NYPD is highlighting record-low crime statistics while encouraging New Yorkers to connect with their local officers during National Night Out.
The department says shootings and murders have reached historic lows through the first seven months of the year, while overall major crime is down nearly 13%, despite an increase in transit crime last month.
As part of National Night Out, precincts across the five boroughs are hosting 23 community events featuring free food, music, games, demonstrations and public safety resources. The annual event is designed to strengthen relationships between police officers and the communities they serve.
Alden Foster, deputy commissioner of the NYPD’s Community Affairs Bureau, joined “Mornings On 1” to discuss this year’s National Night Out events.
