Amtrak is adding a 2nd train to New York

Amtrak will add a second daily round trip to its Pennsylvanian service between Pittsburgh, Harrisburg, Philadelphia and New York City.

The new service will launch sometime later this year, according to Amtrak spokeswoman Beth Toll. She added that Amtrak will share additional details as they become available.

The Pennsylvanian currently departs Penn Station Downtown heading eastbound at 7:30 a.m. daily, and the full trip to New York City takes around 9 hours and 20 minutes. The train arrives back in Pittsburgh at 8:05 p.m.

PennDOT has yet to provide arrival and departure times for the second train.

The Pennsylvanian is one of two routes Amtrak operates in partnership with PennDOT, along with the Keystone Service, which connects New York City to Philadelphia and Harrisburg. Amtrak debuted The Pennsylvanian in 1980.
