New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani is changing up what the Mayor’s Fund to Advance New York City advisory board will look like.
On Monday, August 3, Bloomberg reported that the entire board of advisers, composed of business and civic leaders, was notified in an email that it was being disbanded.
In a separate email, Mamdani, 34, thanked them for their service, writing in part, “I commend you for your dedication and the benefit you have brought to our City as you conclude your tenure on the Mayor’s Fund Board of Advisors.”

The Mayor’s Fund to Advance New York City has raised millions of dollars privately to help the city, per Bloomberg. According to an April news release on NYC.gov, the nonprofit “partners with 50 City agencies and offices, philanthropic organizations and community leaders to invest in the most urgent challenges facing New Yorkers.”
According to Bloomberg, this is the first time in at least three NYC mayoral administrations that all the advisory members were terminated.
As for when the new board member advisors will be chosen, the mayor’s office told the outlet it would be before the end of the year.

“The creation of a new advisory board is an important next step in reimagining how philanthropy can augment, but not replace, public dollars and public goods, and we are eager to share more about our new board of advisors later this year,” Mamdani’s senior advisor Dora Pekec told the New York Post in a statement.
In April, Mamdani announced a new fund board and shared his vision.
“Under Mamdani, the Mayor’s Fund will look different from past administrations — centered not on corporate leadership, but on working New Yorkers and advocates who organized and fought for bold and progressive action on picket lines, protests and public forums in their communities,” the NYC.gov website read.
