Darryl Strawberry is remembered by many New Yorkers as one of the greatest players in Mets history, helping lead the franchise to a World Series title and becoming one of baseball’s most prolific home run hitters.
But away from the game, his life has been marked by personal struggles and redemption.
Over the years, Strawberry has battled substance abuse, endured multiple divorces, faced two cancer diagnoses and recently recovered from a heart attack.
Today, he says his faith has given him a new purpose.
Alongside his wife, Tracy, Strawberry is an ordained minister who spends much of the year speaking at churches, schools, prisons, hospitals and conferences.
His journey is the focus of his new book, “Another Life: Discovering the Healing Power of Purpose on My Long Journey from Player to Preacher,” which reflects on his path from baseball star to preacher.
Strawberry joined “Mornings On 1” to discuss his career, his personal transformation and the message of hope he hopes readers take from his story.
