The City of Bayonne is mourning the death of Police Officer Joseph Giordano, who the police department said late this afternoon “left us unexpectedly.”

“Today, our hearts are heavy as we mourn the loss of our brother, Officer Giordano, who left us unexpectedly. There are no words to truly express the sadness we feel. Joe was more than a friend and colleague – he was family. His kindness, laughter, unwavering loyalty, and the positive impact he had on everyone around him will not be forgotten,” the Bayonne PD said in a social media post.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with Joe’s family, friends, and everyone grieving this tremendous loss. May they find strength and comfort in the love and support that surrounds them during this difficult time. Rest easy brother, you will never be forgotten. We will carry your memory with us always. 😢💔”
Giordano’s obituary and funeral arrangements were not immediately available as of Wednesday evening.
In a joint statement from Mayor Sharon Ashe-Nadrowski and the City Council, they called him “one of Bayonne’s finest” and said the city will be offering “support and resources” to anyone who needs them.
“Today we mourn the sudden loss of one of Bayonne’s finest, Police Officer Joseph Giordano. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family, friends, and fellow officers as they navigate the immensely difficult days ahead,” the elected officials said.
“The City Administration will offer its full depth of support and resources to those who need assistance navigating this tragic loss.”
