On Tuesday, Aug. 4, New York City reintroduced neon green warning stickers for street-cleaning violations, and Mayor Zohran Mamdani voiced support for the measure. The NYC shame stickers from the New York City Department of Sanitation note when a vehicle blocks street cleaning rules, highlighting parking violations that prevent proper sweeping. Officials said the Department of Transportation may place notices no larger than 8.5 by 11 inches under Local Law 119/2026. Council Member Gale Brewer, a prime sponsor, said the tool had been effective before a 2012 ban. During a press conference Tuesday, Mamdani said making DSNY work easier merits support. Former Council Member David Greenfield criticized the stickers as hard to remove and harmful to vehicles.
