During the August 4 Commission meeting, the Manhattan City Commission unanimously approved a Construction Manager at Risk (CMAR) agreement with McCown Gordon Construction and a professional services agreement with Anderson Knight Architects for the Lemur and Americas Exhibit Project at Sunset Zoo, the city said in a statement.

The CMAR will oversee the construction and incur any extra costs if the project goes above the guaranteed maximum price of the project they negotiated with the city.

According to the city, Anderson Knight was previously attached to the project and has already developed 30% of the preliminary design. The next phase will advance the project to 70% design completion through a $561,442 agreement.

The nonprofit Sunset Zoological Park and Wildlife Conservation Trust will pay for the project.

The city stated that once this phase is completed, a new funding agreement with the Sunset Zoo Trust will be presented to the City Commission for approval before the next phase begins.

No construction start date has been reported.
