In this series, the TDN takes a look at notable successes of European-based sires in North America. This week’s column is highlighted by the victory of Survie in the GII Glens Falls Stakes.

Survie Gets Her Graded Win In New York

Michael Tabor’s Survie (Churchill), multiple Group 1-placed in Europe and Group 1-placed in Saudi Arabia, put her stamp on the rescheduled GII Glens Falls Stakes at Saratoga for trainer George Boughey on August 2 (video).

A winner of the G2 Prix de Malleret in 2024, the five-year-old mare sold for 1.9 million gns during the Tattersalls December Mares Sale to MV Magnier. Since then, she’s run third in the G1 Neom Turf Cup in Riyadh, filled that same spot in Newmarket’s G2 Dahlia Stakes in May, and finally earned her second black-type badge in Saratoga Springs in six starts. She started her career in the colours of Gerard Augustin-Normand, and later China Horse Club joined the ownership before her sale.

Wertheimer Homebred Salutes At Saratoga

Embouteillage (Kingman), a homebred for Wertheimer et Frere, ran out a 1 1/4-length debut victress at Saratoga on Wednesday afternoon (video).

The Graham Motion trainee is out of GIII Gallorette Stakes heroine Mitchell Road (English Channel), who foaled the yearling filly Desobeissante, by Into Mischief, as well as Routiere (Nyquist) this term. Mitchell Road, also placed in the GIII Ladies Turf Stakes, the GIII Kentucky Downs Ladies Turf Stakes and GIII Athenia Stakes, visited Justify this spring. Kentucky Derby hero Country House (Lookin At Lucky) is a half-brother to Mitchell Road.

Juddmonte’s Kingman has sired 54 winners from 103 runners (52%) in the U.S. and Canada. His nine stakes winners there are headed by multiple Grade I winner Domestic Spending.

Ashikidah On Top At The Spa

Philip Antonacci saddled Ashikidah to her first win at Saratoga on Wednesday, August 5 (video). The daughter of Belardo and Ashtaneh (More Than Ready) was bred by The Aga Khan’s Studs.

Racing in the colours of her breeder for her first eight starts, the filly was second in the Listed Prix de Saint-Cyr in her final appearance for Francis-Henri Graffard. After selling for €400,000 to Antonacci during the 2025 Arqana December Breeding Stock Sale, Ashikidah now bears the silks of Lindy Farms, AC Crawford Farms, Glen Hill Farm and Ice Wine Stable. A half-sister to Listed Prix Ceres heroine Ashiyma (Dariyan), Ashikidah has a two-year-old half-sister named Afshana (Sea The Moon) still to race. A granddaughter of listed heroine Ashiyla (Rock Of Gibraltar), Ashikidah is also related to dual-Group 1-winning Classic hero and sire Ashkalani.

Belardo currently stands in Turkey. Among his 20 worldwide stakes winners are Group 1 victors Gold Phoenix, Red Lion and Romanoff. Gold Phoenix is his American-based flagbearer. Ashikidah brings her sire’s record to nine winners from 10 runners (90%) in the U.S.

Just A Ray Of Sunshine

One Bid Stable’s Sunny Ray (Invincible Spirit) rolled home a 10 1/2-length winner at Canterbury for trainer Coty Rosin on August 1. Bred by M Al-Qatami and K Al-Mudhaf, the bay filly was making her third start.

Out of Ray Of Sunshine (Dawn Approach), she sold for €50,000 as a Goffs Orby Book 1 yearling in 2023. Runner-up at second asking at Horseshoe Indiana for trainer Whitworth Beckman and Legion Racing last year, she changed hands for $32,000 out of the 2025 Keeneland Horses of Racing Age Sale last November. Her dam has a yearling filly by Ace Impact as her latest foal. Ray Of Sunshine is a half-sister to G1 Gold Cup hero Courage Mon Ami (Frankel), Group 3 heroine Danielle (Cracksman), multiple stakes winner and G3 September Stakes second Lion’s Pride (Roaring Lion) and stakes winner and multiple group-placed Crimson Rosette (Teofilo).

The pensioned Invincible Spirit has sired 32 winners from 71 runners in the U.S. (45%). Of his seven stakes winners, GI Turf Classic Stakes hero Digital Age and GI Breeders’ Cup Juvenile victor Vale Of York are his best.

Repeat Winners

Klaravich Stables’ Risk Tolerance (Kingman) won his third career victory at Saratoga for Chad Brown on Thursday, August 6 (video). He is a son of G3 Prix de Flore heroine Loving Things (Pivotal), herself a half-sister to Kingman‘s GII Red Smith Stakes hero Serve The King, who was second in the GI Joe Hirsch Turf Classic Stakes for Peter Brant and Brown in 2021.

Third in the GIII Senorita Stakes at Santa Anita in May, her second such placing, Yours Sincerely (Cable Bay) returned a winner at Del Mar for trainer Phil D’Amato on August 2 (video). She races for the Benowitz Family Trust, CYBT, Madaket Stables, McLean Racing Stables, Jerry McClanahan and Michael Nentwig.

Miss Mandalay (Dandy Man) returned a winner for Robert Hess and her ownership group (Rancho Temescal Thoroughbred Partners, Larry Buckendorf and Jeffrey Lambert) at Del Mar on August 2 (video). The granddaughter of stakes winner Forthefirstime (Dr Fong) was winning for the third time in her career.
