Homicide suspect in custody after days-long manhunt, State Police say
The man wanted for allegedly killing his father and burning down the house is now in custody, according to New York State Police.
PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. —
New York State Police announced early Sunday morning that they have found 32-year-old Thomas Ryan. State Police said he is a suspect in a homicide investigation. State Police believe Ryan allegedly killed his father, 70-year-old Robert Ryan.
NYSP said they have concluded its search in the Gilboa area of Schoharie County.
Authorities responded to a fire Friday night in Greenville, New York, where they found Robert deceased inside the home, according to police. An investigation revealed that the fire was deliberately set.
In a press release, the NYSP said Thomas Ryan did not live with his father at the time of the incident or had any known connections to the Greenville community. Investigators determined that Ryan had lived a transient lifestyle, staying at numerous shelters throughout the state.
During the search for Ryan, police labeled him as “armed and dangerous” and known to frequent the Plattsburgh area.
NYSP said they want to thank the public and local law enforcement for their assistance.
No further details on Ryan’s arrest have been released at this time.
