STONY BROOK, Long Island (PIX11) — A retired NYPD chief drowned in his backyard pool on Friday in Stony Brook, according to authorities.
Suffolk County Homicide detectives are investigating the drowning death of retired Chief Anthony Izzo, 75, after he was found unresponsive in his pool, police said.

Police do not believe the chief’s death to be criminal in nature.
According to officials, one of Izzo’s family members called 911 at around 7:45 p.m. on Friday at their Stony Brook home. He was pulled from the pool and emergeny personnel attempted CPR before rushing him to the hospital.
Izzo was pronounced dead at the hospital by staff, police said.

The NYPD’s 115th Precinct posted a statement regarding the retired chief’s sudden death, saying, “Today, we mourn the passing of retired NYPD Chief Anthony J. Izzo, who proudly served as our Commanding Officer in 1995. His leadership and dedication to the people of New York City left a lasting legacy. Our thoughts are with his family and loved ones. May he rest in peace.”
Izzo also served as chief of the Organized Crime Control Bureau.
