SYRACUSE, N.Y. — Drivers in Syracuse will have to wait a longer for East Colvin Street to reopen as work connected to the I-81 Viaduct Project continue.
The New York State Department of Transportation says the full closure of East Colvin Street between Garfield Avenue and Moore Avenue has been extended until 6 a.m. Wednesday, August 12.
The road was originally expected to reopen Monday morning, but the DOT crews encountered unexpected heavy rocky during excavation, requiring the closure to be extended.
East Colvin Street remains closed to traffic in both directions.
Eastbound drivers are being directed south on South Salina Street, south on East Brighton Avenue, east on Thurber Street and north on Comstock Avenue before returning to East Colvin Steet.
Westbound rivers should travel south on Comstock Avenue, west on Thurber Street, north on East Brighton Avenue and north on South Salina Street before returning to East Colvin Street.
The work is part of utility construction associated with the I-81 Viaduct Project.
The DOT says construction is weather-dependent and the schedule could change based on conditions. Drivers are urged to slow down and use caution while traveling through work zones.
