Community members gathered to take in the festivities offered at the 34th Annual Hong Kong Dragon Boat Festival on Aug. 8 and 9 at Meadow Lake in Flushing Meadows Corona Park.

An international marketplace provided the thousands of attendees with a chance to take in the multicultural cuisines, including from multiple food trucks, as well as traditional arts and crafts, sponsor activations and community programming.

Multiple elected officials were on hand for this year’s Hong Kong Dragon Boat Festival, including New York State Attorney General Letitia James, Queens District Attorney Melinda Katz, New York City Comptroller Mark Levine, New York City Council Members Shanel Thomas-Henry, Phil Wong and Susan Zhuang and New York State Assemblymember Edward Braunstein. Several elected officials also took part in the dragon boat races.

“This is really a celebration of the Asian community. It’s also critically important that the Asian community know that they are not alone,” James said. “We are seeing an increasing number of acts of hate, and it’s important that we stay together and we stand together, and that we cover the Asian community, and that we join with them arm in arm, with no space between us, letting them know that we are all one.”

“[The Hong Kong Dragon Boat Festival] brings such positive energy here to Queens,” Braunstein said. “Really, I just want to thank everybody involved, from Henry [Wan], the [festival’s] chairman, to all of the volunteers, to all the sponsors, to all the teams.”
