OGDENSBURG, New York (WWNY) – Hundreds of people gathered at the Great Room at the Ogdensburg Airport on Monday for the return of the Seniorama, a resource expo offering services and vendors to senior citizens in St. Lawrence County.
The North Country Chapter of the NY Statewide Senior Action Council, which spans eight counties, organized the event. It was the expo’s return to St. Lawrence County after an absence of several years.
Services, vendors and community
Vendors at the event included representatives from Medicare, the New York State Comptroller’s office, household product sellers, and clean energy services. Political campaigns were also present.
Mary Jane Barnes of the NY Statewide Senior Action Council said the event removed barriers to accessing services.
“They don’t need the appointment to talk to somebody from Medicare, to go to the NYS comptroller’s office and ask questions. They don’t need that appointment; they can set up a follow right here,” Barnes said.
Louise Jenson of the North Country Clean Energy Hub described her organization’s role at the event.
“We are a free, non-profit service that provides homeowners and tenants with information about how to save on their energy use,” Jenson said.
Connie Stowell, representing Princess House Products, said she was meeting new and familiar faces at the expo.
“I have healthy cookware and storage and I’m meeting a lot of new great friends and seeing a lot of old and everybody seems to be enjoying themselves,” Stowell said.
Open to all ages
The Seniorama was not limited to senior citizens. Younger attendees were also welcome to learn about services that may be available to them in the future.
Barnes said she expects the event to return to the Ogdensburg Airport.
“I really like this place. So I think we can fit more tables in and handle it. I’d come here again,” she said.
The Seniorama was described as one of the largest events held so far at the Great Room at the Ogdensburg Airport.
