New York State Police in Troop C targeted speeding and aggressive drivers during a statewide “Speed Week” enforcement campaign conducted August 3 through August 9, 2026. Troopers also focused on New York’s “Move Over” Law and proper seatbelt use throughout the enforcement period.
Troop C includes Broome, Chenango, Cortland, Delaware, Otsego, Tioga and Tompkins Counties.
Troopers issued 1,540 tickets for speeding, 11 speeding violations in work zones.
Troopers also issued:
150 tickets for violations of the Move Over Law128 tickets for seatbelt violations; 44 of those were children who were not properly restrained.
The results represent an increase in several categories compared to the enforcement initiative conducted June 8 through June 14, 2026. During that campaign, 1,187 speeding tickets, including 50 in work zones, 96 tickets for Move Over Law violations and 131 seatbelt violations (15 of which involved children who were not properly restrained).
Speeding continues to be a major factor in fatal crashes across New York State. According to the Institute for Traffic Safety Management and Research (ITSMR) at the University at Albany, in 2024, 315 fatal crashes in New York State were reported as speed related.
During the “Speed Week” enforcement period, Troopers utilized both marked State Police vehicles, including Troop C’s Mustang and Concealed Identity Traffic Enforcement (CITE) vehicles to identify motorists violating traffic laws.
New York State Police remind motorists that speeding, aggressive driving and failing to move over can have serious consequences. Drivers are urged to slow down, remain alert, buckle up and move over or slow down when approaching emergency and maintenance vehicle stopped along the roadway.
