Voters in Brooklyn Park narrowed a field of four mayoral candidates down to two for Tuesday’s primary election.
Incumbent Mayor Hollies Winston and challenger Shelle Page, a current Brooklyn Park City Council member, both advanced.
Winston was the top vote-getter receiving 48.6 percent of the vote, or 5,639 votes total.
Page garnered 27.3 percent and 3,167 total votes.
Maria Tran, also a current Brooklyn Park City Council member, had 9.8 percent and 1,141 votes. Boyd Morson, a former Brooklyn Park City Council member, finished with 14.3 percent and 1,660 total votes.
Tran previously sued Mayor Winston and other council members for defamation, but a judge dismissed that suit.
Winston is seeking a second four-year term. Page, meanwhile, won election to the city council in 2024 for a four-year term.
City Council East District Primary
A primary election was also necessary to trim a field of four city council candidates down to two to represent the East District.
Christian Eriksen, an incumbent, and Allen Miskowiec were the top vote-getters.
Eriksen had 52.4 percent of the vote and 2,068 total votes, while Miskowiec had 17.7 percent and 696 votes.
Philip Seton Gaye-Bai had 15 percent and 591 votes. Aaron Endris ended up at 14.9 percent and 589 votes.
The Central and West district races did not require a primary election as each have two people running for those seats.
The Central District will feature incumbent Nichole Klonowski up against challenger Ashyante Shantell Gill this November.
The West District has Tonja West-Hafner facing Bernice David-Cooper. West-Hafner previously served on the Brooklyn Park City Council. The seat is open as Council Member Maria Tran, whose term is expiring, decided to run for mayor.
Council members and the mayor also serve on the city’s Economic Development Authority.
This fall’s election comes as the city faces a handful of key issues. Chief among them are the city’s push for a BioTech Innovation District and plans for the unsettled Metro Blue Line light rail extension.
