There were several primaries in the CCX News coverage area involving candidates running for state office. They include two Senate districts and one House district.
Minnesota Senate District 37
In Minnesota Senate District 37, Kristy Janigo advanced to the general election defeating Austin Chanen in a DFL primary. Janigo is a current Maple Grove City Council member.
Janigo had 84.2 percent, or 8,468 total votes, while Chanen received 15.8 percent and 1,593 votes.
Janigo will face Republican Brady Hoag, who did not have a primary challenge.
The seat was previously held by longtime state Senator Warren Limmer of Maple Grove, who retired from elected office.
Senate District 37 includes all of Corcoran, Greenfield, Independence, Loretto, Maple Plain, Medina, and precincts in Maple Grove.
Minnesota Senate District 38
Incumbent state Sen. Susan Pha, DFL-Brooklyn Park, advanced to the general election, winning a primary in Minnesota Senate District 38 by defeating DFL challenger Nehemiah Garley.
Pha received 74.9 percent, or 5,623 total votes, while Garley had 25.1 percent and 1,885 total votes.
Pha will now face Republican Brad Olson, who did not have a primary challenger.
Senate District 38 contains all of Osseo and Brooklyn Center, as well as precincts in Brooklyn Park.
Minnesota House District 38A
Incumbent state Rep. Huldah Momanyi-Hiltsley held off a DFL primary challenge from Wynfred Russell and Richard Klatte. Russell is a fomer Brooklyn Park City Council member.
Momanyi-Hiltsley received 48.8 percent of the vote, or 1,822 votes, while Russell received 41.8 percent and 1,561 votes. Klatte finished a distant third with 9.4 percent and 351 votes.
There was also a Republican primary with Charlie Kistler easily advancing over Yelena Kurdyumova.
Kister had 90.2 percent and 979 votes, while Kurdyumova received 9.8 percent and 106 votes.
House District 38A covers the city of Osseo and the southwestern portion of Brooklyn Park.
The general election is Tuesday, Nov. 3.
