The tram upgrades and maintenance works on Queens Bridge Street in Southgate are moving to the next stage from Thursday 13 August 2026.

Overnight on Friday 14 August the bridge will be closed to traffic and bikes for the site set up.

From 5am Saturday 15 August, bike lanes will be closed but the bridge will remain open for bikes with signed detours in place.

Main works between Flinders Street and City Road, Southbank, will be underway 24 hours a day from 8pm Friday 14 August to 5am Monday 17 August 2026.

Old overhead cables will be removed and placed underground, two pairs of expansion joints will be repaired on the bridge, and the tram reserve along Queens Bridge Street, between Flinders Street and City Road, Southbank will be re-surfaced.

Buses will continue to run along Queens Bridge Street during works. Buses will replace trams on tram route 58.

Crews will continue the clean-up of the worksite for a few weeks after the main works have finished.

Note that from 1am to 5am on Monday 17 August, Queens Bridge Street will be closed to traffic and bikes to remove traffic management treatments in preparation for the road re-opening.
