Police in the Bronx are investigating a two-alarm fire at a store on Tuesday night that left a worker burned after witnesses say an unidentified suspect threw a lit object into the establishment.
According to FDNY and police sources, emergency services received a 911 call that somebody had thrown some kind of device into Hot Times Stationery, located at 4 West 183rd St. in Fordham Heights, at approximately 10:11 p.m. on Aug. 11.
Firefighters rushed to the scene as thick smoke filled the streets. Approximately 141 FDNY and EMS personnel responded to the blaze, the Fire Department said, before it was quelled just before 11:15 p.m. Tuesady.
Meanwhile, a 33-year-old man suffered what police describe as severe burns to his face and body as a result of the fire. EMS rushed him to Jacobi Hospital, where he was listed in stable condition.
FDNY sources reported that initial 911 calls stated a lithium-ion battery had burst into flames. However, witnesses told officials on scene that an object had been thrown. It is believed an e-bike may have contributed to the blaze.
Fire marshals are actively investigating and will determine the cause of the fire.
No arrests have been made.
