NEW YORK CITY (PIX 11) — The Powerball jackpot has soared to an estimated $1 billion, sending players across New York City to local bodegas in hopes of turning a few bucks into a life-changing fortune.
710 Quick Stop on 38th Street and Second Avenue was busy with billion-dollar dreams Wednesday as Powerball players stopped in throughout the day for tickets, hoping their numbers could make them the next big winner.

Quintun McMillan already has big plans for the money if he hits the jackpot.
“I’m going to buy my family a house man,” he said. “Buy my mom something. Get her a little something, something. I might donate a good amount of it too honestly. That’s one of the things too. I feel like if you are lucky enough to get the opportunity to get that much, you might as well give something back.”
Edgar Gomzmard is feeling good about his chances of winning — hopeful that a massive payday is coming his way.
“I want to win. I need the money,” Gomzmard said. “That’s the reason I come to pick up the ticket.
The estimated jackpot for Wednesday night’s Powerball drawing has reached $1 billion. The cash option is an estimated $433.1 million. The last time the jackpot topped $1 billion was back in December. Jeff is hoping his purchase is enough to change his life.
“I only spent $10,” said Jeff. “I think that’s all I need.”
The odds of hitting that billion-dollar jackpot is just 1 in 292.2 million. To put that in perspective, you’re more likely to be struck by lightning in a given year. Gregg Palma, however, is not letting those odds stop him from dreaming big.
“It’s at a billion, as if anything less was not more intent to play, but I’m excited,” Palma said. “It’s big numbers.”
Powerball drawings are held every Monday, Wednesday, and Saturday at 10:59 pm.
