No suspect in custody 10 days after Jay homicide
New York State Police continue to investigate a homicide that occurred in Jay in early August. While no suspect is in custody, investigators said there is no ongoing threat to the public.

Ten days after New York State Police began investigating a homicide in Jay, there is still no suspect in custody.
NBC5 reached out to New York State Police for an update on the investigation, which began on August 2, after a woman was found dead at a residence on Carey Road.
On Wednesday, New York State Police Trooper Brandi Ashley told NBC5 that the victim, identified as Patricia Lawrence, 54, was believed to be the sole intended target and that there was no greater threat to the public.
“Investigators believe this was an isolated incident, and the victim was the sole intended target,” Ashley said. “We understand that the circumstances may be concerning to members of the community. At this time, however, there is no information indicating that the public is at risk.”
New York State Police continue to follow all available leads and are working diligently to identify the person responsible.
Investigators are asking anyone with information that may assist with the investigation to contact them. State police are also asking residents and businesses in the area surrounding 150 Carey Road to review security camera footage for suspicious activity between 10:30 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 1, and 9 a.m. on Sunday, Aug. 2.
