Curtis Sliwa called out the families of 9/11 victims who have demanded New York Mayor Zohran Mamdani stay away from this year’s annual ceremony marking the 2001 terror attack.
The families announced in an exclusive report from the New York Post last month that they wanted to ban Mamdani from attending ceremonies on the 25th anniversary of the attacks on the Sept. 11, 2001 terror attack on the Twin Towers, which left 2,977 people dead.
One of the men quoted in the report — who lost his wife on 9/11 — claimed Mamdani failed to “meaningfully acknowledge the horror of that day.” The man also cited the mayor’s association with left-wing influencer Hasan Piker, who controversially said the U.S. deserved 9/11 before eventually walking back those comments.
Sliwa called the push to ban Mamdani “ridiculous,” while talking with reporters Thursday, adding:
He’s the mayor. Stop being sore losers! You knew this is Zohran Mamdani. He was never a fake, phony, fraudulent, fugazi like a lot of politicians. He told you who he was. Once he got elected, you should have known he was going to be there at 9/11. Now, if you choose to turn your back on him, I don’t want to ever tell family members what they should be doing on this holiday — not holiday, but this solemn occasion — that’s your choice. But I believe you respect the office. He’s the mayor. He’s representing the city.
Sliwa then took a shot at radio host Sid Rosenberg and former Gov. Andrew Cuomo.
Ahead of November’s mayoral election, Rosenberg joked with Cuomo — who ran as an Independent — that Mamdani would cheer for the terrorists if 9/11 happened while he was in office. Cuomo agreed, and the viral clip sparked furious outrage.
“He was gaining traction,” Sliwa continued, “and then he made that stupid remark and then didn’t handle it well. And then Zohran exploited the hell out of it, as he should. That was Islamophobic.”
