BISMARCK — Williston’s very own Queens of the Diamonds softball squad brought home a state championship for the first time last weekend, securing a first-place finish in the women’s slow pitch state softball tournament.
From Aug. 1-2, the recreational softball team from Williston played a total of eight games, including five back-to-back games on Sunday, besting the ten other crews from across the state to hoist the Rec 3 State Softball Tournament championship trophy.
The team is coached by Jay Ellis and rosters Abby Perez, Anissa Bengochea, Emily Holt, Hannah Fisher, Jacee Turcotte, Jordan Garcia, Katlyn Gavin, Keeley Snellings, Mary Postell, Chelle Giesler, Mikaela Radermacher, Morgan Garcia, Nicole Wall, Rylee Smith, Samantha Shields and Taneeka Johnson.
It came down to the wire in the title game with a final score was 6-5. The Queens of the Diamonds emerged narrowly with the win over Bismarck’s Iron & Oak to earn the trophy.
