NEW YORK, N.Y. (WABI) – Kennebunkport’s Max Murray scored his first professional soccer goal with NYC FC on Sunday.
Murray’s header was his team’s lone goal in a 2-1 loss to Cruz Azul in Leagues Cup play.
He spoke about this unforgettable moment of his career.
“It’s been a dream since I was a kid to be able to score at this level and play at this level. It’s a stepping stone, hopefully, to more to come. Coming to New York, the way of life is completely different. The speed of life is way different. (It’s) just adapting to the speed and physicality of play here, and then making sure you’re taking care of yourself off the field,” said Murray, defender.
Murray helped the Vermont Catamounts win their first-ever national men’s soccer championship in 2024.
NYC FC finished Leagues Cup play with a 2-1 loss to Necaxa on Thursday.
Next up, the team opens the MLS regular season by hosting the Philadelphia Union at Yankee Stadium on Sunday at 6 p.m.
