How Central New York’s walleye are prepped for stocking

Walleye fishing season started at the beginning of May.

According to the New York State Department of Conservation, almost 190,000,000 walleye are stocked in 35 waterways across the state.

At the South Otselic Fish Hatchery in Central New York, workers raise some of New York’s fish supply.

If you want to get out on the water but don’t have a fishing license, there are two more free fishing days this year in New York: Sept. 26 and Nov. 11.
