THE BRONX, N.Y. (PIX11) — A 62-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly running a fentanyl packaging and distribution mill out of an apartment in the Fordham neighborhood of the Bronx, said Special Narcotics Prosecutor Bridget G. Brennan.
According to Brennan, agents and officers with Task Force Group T-14 began investigating Antonio Cabrera earlier this year. Using physical and electronic surveillance, they observed him repeatedly entering and exiting 2075 Morris Avenue, Apt. 3J over the course of a week.

Once the investigation was complete, officers moved in to arrest Cabrera on July 13. According to police, when agents and officers first approached Cabrera’s apartment door, an NYPD K-9 accompanying them alerted officers that drugs were present.
As officers entered the apartment, they allegedly saw Cabrera attempting to toss a handful of powdered drugs out a nearby window. According to police, the powder then became airborne, causing a danger to the additional occupants of the building. The NYPD’s Emergency Service Unit and Hazmat Team responded to the scene and evacuated 14 children from two daycare centers on the first floor.

After Cabrera was taken into custody, the Emergency Service Unit conducted a court-authorized search of his apartment and allegedly seized nearly 10 pounds of fentanyl. Police also allegedly confiscated a number of items used in the processing and packaging of fentanyl, including blenders, glassine envelopes, scales, stamps and inkpads.
Cabrera now faces seven counts of criminal possession of a controlled substance, as well as charges of reckless endangerment and criminally using drug paraphernalia.
“Once again the DEA New York Task Force Division, alongside our law enforcement partners, has dismantled another fentanyl packaging and distribution operation operating out of a Bronx apartment building, which also housed two daycare facilities”, stated DEA New York Task Force Division Special Agent in Charge Christopher Roberts. “In one particularly disturbing moment, as our Task Force agents, officers, and K-9 “Mulk” made entry into the apartment, the defendant attempted to dispose the fentanyl powder by throwing it out of a window, exposing our personnel and residents living in the building to this deadly poison. This was not simply drug trafficking; it is blatant disregard for human life and could have become a death sentence for the innocent families living in the building. This operation underscores both the scale and the lethality of the threat we confront every day and highlights the grave danger these traffickers pose to our children, our neighbors, and our communities.”
