A man was shot by NYPD officers responding to a 911 call about a man armed with a weapon on the Lower East Side of Manhattan, cops said on Sunday.
The incident happened around 4:30 p.m. on Ludlow St. near Rivington St., according to the NYPD.
Police responding to a 911 call about a man with a weapon confronted the suspect and opened fire, striking him at least one time, cops said. Early reports that the suspect stabbed someone and that he charged at police with a weapon before the shooting are currently under investigation, according to police.
The suspect is thought to be in critical condition, police said.
The NYPD asked people to avoid the vicinity of Rivington Street & Ludlow Sts. in Manhattan due to police activity.
