The stage adaptation of the beloved 1999 Heath Ledger and Julia Stiles movie will come to NYC beginning in August 2027.
There are lots of things to love about this: A 10 Things I Hate About You musical is officially coming to Broadway! Performances begin exactly one year from today, on August 17, 2027, at a theatre to be announced.
10 Things I Hate About You is a contemporary adaptation of Shakespeare’s romantic comedy The Taming of the Shrew, set in an American high school in the ‘90s. Teenagers Bianca and Cameron can only date if Bianca’s older sister, Kat, does so first, leading them to play matchmaker between a reluctant Kat and school bad boy Patrick.
The musical is adapted from the 1999 film of the same name, written by Karen McCullah Lutz and Kirsten Smith and directed by Gil Junger. Julia Stiles, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, and Heath Ledger starred, and the film featured a now-beloved cover of “Can’t Take My Eyes Off of You” by Ledger.
As previously announced, the stage show will feature a score by Grammy-nominated singer Carly Rae Jepsen and Grammy winner Ethan Gruska, a book by eight-time Emmy-nominated and Golden Globe-winning Girls creator Lena Dunham and Jessica Huang, and direction and choreography by Tony winner Christopher Wheeldon (MJ The Musical). Music supervision, orchestrations, and arrangements are by Tony winner Tom Kitt (Next to Normal).
Cast and additional creative team members have yet to be named.
