Elementary school students have been crafting paper flowers as part of a project honoring the victims of 9/11 ahead of its 25th anniversary.

Various schools and community centers in Ridgewood will come together in solemn recognition of the 25th anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks at P.S. 88Q The Seneca School, located at 60-85 Catalpa Ave.
In addition to honoring the lives lost on that fateful day, this gathering is also intended to help the elementary school students gain a better understanding of the tragedy and how everyone came together in its wake.
Ahead of this event, a project was launched by the P.S. 88 Social Justice Committee last May involving making seven-foot-tall recreations of the Twin Towers, which will be placed on the square entrance area. This entrance area will also be decorated to resemble the World Trade Waterfall memorial that now stands at the former site of the World Trade Center.

The next phase of this project has involved the Greater Ridgewood Youth Center leading summer school students in creating paper flowers at P.S. 91Q Richard Arkwright. Additionally, members of the Peter Cardella Senior Center have created red, white and blue flowers. The flowers crafted by the students and seniors will be gathered and stored before they are dropped into the square waterfall display by the parties involved on Friday, Sep. 11, in the main lobby entrance of P.S. 88Q.

With the students being born well after the destruction of the Twin Towers, this project helps educate them on the importance of the World Trade Center, as well as the meaningful sacrifices made by members of the FDNY and NYPD, civilians, service dogs and more in rescue efforts following the terrorist attacks.
