Queens of the Stone Age have found an appropriately painful way to announce the title of their upcoming ninth studio album. 

The rock band revealed that their next record will be called Perfecth through a bizarre and decidedly bloody game of five-finger fillet featuring frontman Josh Homme and guitarist-keyboardist Dean Fertita. The album will follow 2023’s In Times New Roman… and is expected later this year. 

Josh Homme Learns the Hard Way 

The announcement video begins with Homme and Fertita sitting down to play five-finger fillet, the dangerous game in which participants rapidly stab a knife between the fingers of an outstretched hand. 

Fertita appears to be an experienced player, while Homme quickly discovers that he may have bitten off more than he can chew. 

During his first attempt, Homme plunges the knife directly into his hand. 

“Does it hurt?” Fertita asks. 

“Yes, it f****** hurts, dude,” Homme responds before Fertita tells him to pull the knife out. 

Homme, understandably, isn’t immediately enthusiastic about the idea. “I can’t do it,” he says. 

Eventually, he manages to remove the knife—but the situation gets considerably more gruesome from there. 

Queens of the Stone Age’s Announcement Gets Bloody 

After Homme pulls the knife from his hand, the injury suddenly begins bleeding heavily, with blood spraying across the room and covering both musicians. 

It’s an extremely Queens of the Stone Age way to announce an album title. The stunt also fits nicely with the band’s penchant for dark humor and unconventional promotional campaigns. Rather than simply revealing the title through a traditional social media post, QOTSA turned the announcement into a miniature horror show. 

And the title hidden within all that chaos is Perfecth.

“Easy Street” Offers the First Taste 

Fans have already received a preview of what’s coming with “Easy Street.” 

Released in July, the track marked QOTSA’s return with new music after the In Times New Roman… era. Its arrival helped build anticipation for whatever the band had planned next. 

With Perfecth now officially announced, “Easy Street” is likely to become an important piece of the album’s rollout.
