Upper Hudson Planned Parenthood will take over management of sexual and reproduction health services in Saratoga County from Planned Parenthood Greater New York, and plans to open an expanded health center, according to an announcement released Tuesday morning.
“This transition is about strengthening access for patients in Saratoga County, now and into the future,” said Chelly Hegan, President/CEO of Upper Hudson Planned Parenthood. “UHPP already serves many Saratoga residents through our Albany and Troy health centers.”
The two organizations collaborated over 18 months on a transition plan, which they say reflects their commitment to providing care for patients in the county over the long-term amid the loss of federal funding for Planned Parenthood.
“During this period of precarity for sexual and reproductive health, rights, and justice, Planned Parenthood of Greater New York is focused on safeguarding and preserving needed care for New Yorkers. We are confident that the transition of Saratoga Country from PPGNY to Upper Hudson Planned Parenthood is in the best interests of that community and the future of sexual and reproductive health access in the region,” said Wendy Stark, president and CEO of Planned Parenthood Greater New York.
Upper Hudson Planned Parenthood plans to open a site in 2028 with expanded services that will operate at least four days a week, according to a joint statement. Care at the existing Planned Parenthood health center in Saratoga Springs will remain available during the transition. No layoffs are planned.
