DALLAS — Is the best burger in Dallas also the newest burger in Dallas?
Last month, the chorizo frita—frita is the Cuban take on a burger—was named one of the best burgers in New York City by the New York Times.
Now, it’s available in Dallas.
Frita Batidos, a Cuban-inspired burger shop, opened this week in the Knox Henderson neighborhood.
This story continues below.
Inspired by the Cuban food she grew up eating, Chef Eve Aronoff Fernandez opened the first Frita Batidos 16 years ago.
The Dallas location is her fourth overall and the first in Texas.
“The culture is just so warm and welcoming and hospitable, so it just made sense to open here,” Aronoff Fernandez said.
In addition to the chorizo Frita, the menu features many other Fritas—burgers—along with a large selection of batidos—tropical milkshakes.
How does Cuba’s version of burgers and shakes stand out?
“The ingredients are so ripe and lush and flavorful,” Aronoff Fernandez said.
That’s why she said Frita Batidos only uses ingredients that are local, fresh, and in-season.
Aside from the Fritas and batidos, guests can also choose from a Cubano, churros, fried plantains, or something called ‘the best snack ever,’ a mixture of coconut-ginger rice, slow-cooked black beans, melted Muenster cheese, and fresh cilantro-lime salsa.
The goal is to bring Cuban culture to life.
“It’s like you’re cooking at home with your mom, your grandma, whoever,” Aronoff Fernandez said. “We really just want to bend over backwards to take care of people and not just say that.”
The hope is that the food makes guests feel just as welcomed.
“It’s a good burger,” one customer said. “I’ll be back.”
