Queen Camilla is being unusually open about navigating King Charles’s cancer diagnosis. In a new video promoting Maggie’s — a U.K. cancer-care charity of which the queen is president — Camilla remembered visiting the charity in 2024 while her spouse’s diagnosis was not yet public.
“I remember coming to see a Maggie’s just after the king being diagnosed,” Camilla said, “and nobody could say anything for a time. That was quite difficult.” She noted that she is someone who “always said something.” But she felt that, while visiting people with cancer and their families, it wasn’t the right time for her to share her own story. “I was just longing to let it out but obviously I couldn’t,” she said, adding that she was “almost questioning” people for insights on supporting a loved one with cancer. “I didn’t want to pry too deeply but … I felt it was much more deep,” she said.
Buckingham Palace announced that King Charles had been diagnosed with cancer in February 2024 but did not release other details. In 2025, the palace announced that his condition was improving and that his treatment would be “scaled back.” The king said in a public broadcast, “This milestone is both a personal blessing and a testimony to the remarkable advances that have been made in cancer care.”
