STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — Two Staten Island streets have changed from two-way roads to one-way roads.
Hillside Terrace between Durant Avenue and Hylan Boulevard now only allows vehicles to drive one-way towards Hylan Boulevard. Drivers on this portion of Hillside Terrace will notice “New” signs below a one-way sign on the road.

The conversion on Hillside Terrace from a two-way street to a one-way street was made after residents on the block complained that side-view mirrors were getting knocked off and cars were being sideswiped. The petition signed by the residents was presented to Community Board 3 in February 2025.
The residents contacted the city Department of Transportation to examine the feasibility of traffic calming devices or a one-way conversion.
Hillside Terrace between Amboy Road and Durant Avenue, as well as between Hylan Boulevard and Mansion Avenue, remain as two-way streets.

Ocean Road, which also intersects at Hillside Terrace, also is a new one-way street, according to photos taken by Advance/SILive.com reporters.
Drivers are met with a “do not enter” street sign, with the word “New” above it, for those driving down Hillside Terrace past Ocean Road. The street is now only accessible from Great Kills Road.
