ESSEX COUNTY, N.Y. — First responders rescued a Rochester native who became injured while hiking near the summit of Mount Marcy, the tallest mountain in the Adirondacks.
The Department of Environmental Conservation said the 50-year-old hiker slipped on a wet rock and heard a crack in their ankle. A passing hiker, who’s a podiatrist, splinted the hiker’s ankle while waiting for crews to arrive. It happened the afternoon of Monday, Aug. 20.
A New York State Police helicopter carried the hiker out with the help of a forest ranger and flew them to the hospital.
