The National Weather Service issued a flash flood warning for Manhattan and Brooklyn Thursday evening as a line of thunderstorms carrying heavy rain and strong winds moved into New York City.
The warning, issued at 5:40 p.m., is in effect until 7:45 p.m. The weather service said shortly beforehand that storms moving east from northeastern New Jersey carried threats of heavy rain and wind gusts up to 50 mph.
A special weather statement was also issued for Staten Island as the storms approached the city.
