The South Asian Council for Social Services (SACSS) will host its first 5K Run/Walk on Sept. 12 at Kissena Park in Queens to raise support for underserved New Yorkers.

Event check-in begins at 8 a.m., with the race scheduled to start at 9 a.m. Programming will continue through 12:30 p.m. Participants of all fitness levels are invited to run or walk the 5K alongside friends, family, colleagues, and neighbors.

The event is organized by the SACSS Young Professionals Committee, a group of young leaders from across New York City who volunteer their time to build community connections and support the organization’s work.

“Every step taken at this 5K represents a step toward a stronger and more connected community,” said Sudha Acharya, SACSS founder and executive director, who encouraged community members to participate. “For more than 26 years, SACSS has been committed to ensuring that underserved communities have access to the resources and opportunities they need.”

Founded in 2000, SACSS works to empower and integrate underserved South Asians and other immigrant communities into New York’s economic and civic life. The organization provides healthcare access, food assistance, senior support, workforce development, mental health services, legal assistance, and civic engagement programs in more than 20 languages.
