It has been more than four years of Russia’s full-on invasion of Ukraine.
Since February 2022, an estimated 125,000 Ukrainian military service members have been killed. Nearly 17,000 civilians have been killed, according to the United Nations Human Rights Monitoring Mission in Ukraine. Also, a combined 10 million people are displaced, more than half of whom have fled the country.
Next week, the Ukrainian Freedom Orchestra will return to Lincoln Center to perform “Verdi’s Requiem” in honor of the Ukrainian people.
The performance was composed as part of the orchestra’s “2026 Invincible Tour,” named to bring attention to Ukraine’s quest for freedom and to pay respect to the brave soldiers who have died in battle.
Peter Gelb, the general manager of the Metropolitan Opera, joined NY1 political anchor Errol Louis on “Inside City Hall” Thursday to discuss the opera and the invasion of Ukraine.
